THAT might actually make the ipad capable of replacing a keyboard.

Give this a try if you're on iPhone 3G / iPod Touch 2G with a very slow device after updating to iOS4. Turn off the spotlight search facility by navigating to the following -
Settings > General > Spotlight search and switch off all ticked boxes.

By the weekend, the iPhone Flaw - sorry, iPhone 4* - will be avilable to buy in 17 countries in addition to the five it's currently available in.
On Friday, 30 July, the handset will go on sale in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Apple didn't say how much it plans to charge for the phone in these countries, either in the handset's 16GB or 32GB versions.
The iPhone will be sold by local network operators and by Apple, which will probably offer the handset without a carrier lock, as it has now started doing here in the UK. ®
* Apple would like us to point out that all smartphones have their weak spots, for example a design that amplifies signal attenuation caused by bodily contact.

As you know, you can play many formats of music on the iPod, iPhone and iPad, not just audio files downloaded from the iTunes store. You can add your own mp3 files etc. You can also convert your ebooks to the epub format used by the new iBooks application. As long as they aren't copyright protected. Use this program to convert them - http://calibre-ebook.com/ Though reading books on the iPad isn't ideal.
The main one is that people find it difficult to get their own videos onto iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. This is down to Apple only allowing specific video formats to be played on their devices. There are a few video converters out there that have automatic video settings and profiles to convert to a format allowed on these devices. A good one is called DVDFab 7. It has preset formats for the iPod Touch, iPhone as well as higher resolution settings for the iPhone 4 and iPad. It's not a free application for the PC but if you ask me nicely I'll show you how to obtain a fully working copy. It converts video formats from just about all known standards such as xvid, MKV, H264, m2ts (blu-ray format), as well as DVD and Blu-ray disc's inserted into your computer. It's really fast at converting on most modern CPU's. I converted a 1 hour 33 minute long movie in xvid format in 11 minutes. All you do then is open iTunes and drag the video into the library area in the upper left hand corner. Make sure your device is set to sync video's by clicking on the device in iTunes once connected via USB cable. Click the video's tab and make sure it's set to sync.

I use Handbrake to convert my vids. It's free and also has presets for the iPhone.

Maybe some hope for iPhone 3G users and older iPod Touch devices. Test reports of the iOS 4.1 beta software shows a big increase in speed over iOS 4 which slowed devices to an almost grinding halt. This software will probably released around September to coincide with the release of the new iPod range.
